Play Padel Group has received planning approval for Play Padel Meadowhall, a major new indoor padel venue set to open at one of the UK’s leading retail and leisure destinations.

The project marks an important milestone in the company’s expansion strategy and will introduce one of the largest dedicated indoor padel venues in South Yorkshire. Located at Meadowhall, the new club will bring the world’s fastest-growing sport to thousands of new players across the region.

Expanding Padel in South Yorkshire

Padel has seen explosive growth globally over the past decade, and interest in the sport is increasing rapidly across the UK. The approval of the Meadowhall project will allow Play Padel Group to expand access to the sport across Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire area.

The new venue builds on the success of Play Padel Sheffield, which opened in 2025 and has quickly established itself as one of the busiest padel venues in the north of England.

With demand for courts and coaching continuing to grow, the Meadowhall development will provide additional capacity while bringing padel to a new part of the city.

A Flagship Indoor Padel Destination

The approved development will create a flagship indoor padel club featuring premium sporting and social facilities designed to serve both regular players and newcomers to the sport.

The venue will include:

  • 8 state-of-the-art indoor padel courts

  • A licensed bar and speciality coffee bar

  • Premium changing and shower facilities

  • A business lounge and flexible workspace

  • A warm-up gym area

  • A large open-plan social and events space

The club is designed to be more than just a sports facility. Play Padel Meadowhall will provide a vibrant destination where people can play, train, socialise and connect around one of the most exciting sports in the world.

Subject to final construction timelines, the venue is expected to open in summer 2026.

A Major Milestone for Play Padel Group

Alex Fleming, Founder and CEO of Play Padel Group, said the approval represents a significant moment for the company and the growth of padel in the region.

“This is a huge milestone for us. Sheffield has embraced padel in an incredible way over the past year, and we’re thrilled to be bringing a flagship venue to Meadowhall. It’s an iconic location and the perfect place to introduce even more people to the sport.”

“Working alongside British Land, we’re excited to create a destination that matches the energy and momentum of padel as it continues to grow across the UK.”

Building a National Network of Padel Clubs

The Meadowhall project forms part of a broader national rollout for Play Padel Group as the company develops a network of indoor padel clubs across the UK.

Backed by a strong ownership group including England cricketer Joe Root, the business is focused on transforming vacant buildings and underused spaces into vibrant sporting destinations that bring communities together.

As the popularity of padel continues to rise, Play Padel Group aims to make the sport accessible to players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds through high-quality indoor clubs designed for year-round play.
